Ed Cernic Jr. was born in Cambria County and has been a life long resident of West Taylor Township. He and his wife, Rosemarie, have two daughters; Kelly, who is an elementary teacher in Philadelphia School District, and Marie, who currently resides in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. 

Since graduating from Greater Johnstown High School in1972 Ed has had strong ties to the local community and a desire to help improve that community in any way he can. From 1974 to 1976, Ed was the president of the West Taylor Township Volunteer Fire Department, and in 1977 he became the Fire Chief. 

In 1980 Ed was elected as the West Taylor Township Supervisor, a position he served dutifully for 17 years. In 1997 he became a board member of both the PA Motor Vehicle Licensing Board as well as the Greater Johnstown School Board. From 2002 to 2003 Ed served as the Chairman of the Board for the PA Motor Vehicle Licensing Board and was the Board Secretary from 2003 to 2006.  From 2001 to 2003 he also served as Board President for the Greater Johnstown School Board, during which time the construction of the new Greater Johnstown High School was completed.

In 2004 Ed became the County Controller for Cambria County as well as a member of the Cambria County Transit Authority, and for the last four years has served as their Chairman. 

Ed has also helped serve his community in other ways through his work as the Democratic Committeeman, District Chairman and Executive Board Member of the Cambria County Democratic Committee. He has served as President of the Cambria County Association of Township Officials and as a former Executive Board Member of the Cambria-Somerset C.O.G. and as a President of the West End Lions Club. Ed has also been a member of the Cambria County Hospital Authority Board, a former Master of the Conemaugh Valley F&AM Lodge #692 and a member of the Jaffa Shrine in Altoona, as well as President of the Johnstown Area Shrine Club.

For over 38 years Ed has also been involved in local business, creating jobs and boosting the economy by being the Owner and General Manager of Cernic’s Inc., an Owner and Partner of Cernic’s Real Estate Partnership and an Owner and Partner of the Edward and Jeff Cernic Partnership.

Ed has been recognized for Outstanding Service as West Taylor Township Supervisor, he has received recognition from the state of Pennsylvania for being the first motorcycle dealer in the state to be elected as Chairman of the State Board of Vehicle Manufacturers, Dealers and Salespersons.
